ON THE TRAIL you will stay in a mixture of traditional villages and tented camp sites. When in the villages you have the opportunity to walk around the village and take in the local culture. The local people who live along the track are Koiaris. They are warm, friendly and generous people who welcome trekkers onto their land. Villages do not have hot water facilities. |

AMBUA LODGE is an inspired mixture of local architecture, spectacular views and modest luxury off the beaten track. The Lodge is located at 7,000 feet in the PNG Southern Highlands, homeland of the Huli clan with their human hair wigs adorned with colourful flowers and feathers. Ambua Lodge was the recipient of the 1991 Pacific Asia Travel Association's "Pacific Heritage Award" which sighted Ambua Lodge as a "superb example of culturally sensitive and ecological responsible tourism". Ambua Lodge Guests are accommodated in thirty individual units set in a sea of flowers, each unit featuring 180-degree picture windows and en-suite bathroom. Electric blankets and continental quilts are provided for the cool highland evenings. Ambua generates twenty-four hour clean electricity from its own mini hydroelectric power plant. |
