DAY 2 – ARRIVE DUBA PLAINS CAMP, BOTSWANA Following breakfast, we transfer back to the OR Tambo Airport to marry up with our Air Botswana flight to Maun, a flight of approximately 2 hours. On arrival we complete border formalities and are then met by our guide. We then connect with our sole use light air transfer for the 35 minute flight north west to Duba Plains Camp. Duba Plains is perhaps the Okavango Delta's most remote camp. The camp is located in a private 30,000 hectare reserve in the furthermost reaches of the Delta on an island, surrounded by expansive seasonally flooded plains (dependant on annual flood waters) and shaded by tall ebony, fig and garcinia trees. This pristine area is home to lion, lechwe, elephant and huge herds of buffalo, as well as a large variety of Okavango Delta bird life. Wattled cranes and slaty egrets are some of the Okavango specials to be found in the area. The camp focuses on the incredible wildlife in the area through game drives, which are conducted day and night in open 4 x 4 vehicles. What has made this camp so special in the recent past has been the incredible interaction between lion and buffalo. This interaction has been the subject of a recent National Geographic documentary by Derek and Beverly Joubert entitled Relentless Enemies. We spend two nights at Duba Plains settling into safari life. Overnights – Duba Plains Camp – 2 nights – Full board basis including meals, game viewing activities, laundry and beverages |

DAY 4 – BEGIN EPIC FOOT SAFARI This morning we will transfer by light air to the Vumbura airstrip, a flight of around 10 minutes. Here we will begin our Epic Foot Safari. For the next 5 nights/6 days we will be on foot in one of the wildest and remote parts of Africa. During this time we will parallel the Selinda Spillway, covering approximately 130 kilometres. We will average around 20 kilometres per day. This is quite an undertaking. THE GOING WILL BE TOUGH so you need to be in good mental and physical condition. THIS IS NOT FOR THE FAINT HEARTED. Daily temperatures will get up into the high 30’s making walking arduous. Add to that the fact that we will be walking through sandveld country that houses the thickest elephant population in the world and it equals a walk of epic proportions. There are inherent dangers therefore a fact we all need to be aware of prior to stepping off. As mentioned previously, we will walk in two bounds; one covering approximately 15 kilometres in the mornings and the second over 5-8 kilometres in the late afternoon. The route we will be walking has a large wildlife resource with a wide variety of species. It houses one of the largest elephant populations in the world and we should see multitudes of these wonderful grey monsters. There are also good populations of plainsgame and predators. Overnights – Fly Camping – 5 nights – Full board basis |
