VICTORIA FALLS OVERVIEW

"Mosi oa Tunya" - the Smoke that Thunders - is an accurate description of what happens when the waters of the Zambezi River plunge over the 1,700 metre wide and 100 metre deep chasm, creating a shower of spray and a deafening noise. People often ask if it is worth seeing. Bear in mind it is three times the width and double the height of Niagara Falls. For this reason, it is the only waterfall in the make-up of the Seven Wonders of the natural world.

Best months

February - September

Note

Water levels drop markedly toward the end of the dry season and between October and December we don’t get great demand for the Falls. That said however these are peak months for rafting (when the rapids are at their best).

Epic suggests

1 - 2 days / 1 night

Sample itinerary

  • It is best to see the falls both on foot and from the air. A helicopter flight - the “Flight of Angels” - is a must
  • If adrenalin is your thing then we recommend white water rafting and bungee jumping. You will need a two night stay to fit this in
  • We recommend a relaxing sunset cruise on the Zambezi River above the falls to get an appreciation of the size of the river
  • Visit a local village to appreciate the challenges of modern day semi-rural African life
  • Swim at the head of the falls in the Devils Pool as part of an outing to Livingstone Island for tea
